The AW12/13 collection will only be STEINUM’S 2nd collection. The
label produces one line of hand knitted garments every year. The
AW12-13 collection was premiered at Copenhagen Fashion week in
February 2012. The luxury label is sold in selected boutiques, e.g. in
Companys in Copenhagen and Fraulein Schumacher in Hamburg. Although
STEINUM is a very new brand it has already been featured in Vogue
Russia and Vogue Italia.
STEINUM is part of a social project for women in Western Ukraine. All
the hand knitted STEINUM garments are made by “unskilled” women of all
ages who’s possibilities for acquiring other paid work are virtually
impossible. This gives the women an opportunity for making their own
money while staying at home taking care of their families.

STEINUM is a knitwear label by designer Jóhanna av STEINUM from the
Faroe Islands. The label is strongly rooted in the Faroese knitting
heritage but her unique and contemporary approach stems from her
experience in working in the London fashion industry where she studied
design at London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martin’s College
of Art and Design. After graduation she became a teacher at the
latter.

The style of the STEINUM garments is high fashion and high quality
with a unique, colourful and positive feel and with a childish but
“tongue in cheek” edge.

Jóhanna herself curates knitted art exhibitions and lectures about
knitted art and design. She also writes and illustrates children books
and is the
author of “The Indispensable Guide to Knitting in the Faroe Islands”.

STEINUM participated in The Nordic Fashion Biennale in 2011.
